The Nerve!

So, for like 25 years, I’ve been cooking, doing homework, driving kids to soccer, basketball and football games and now that the baby is 21 years old, he had the nerve to tell me to “Get a life, Get your own life, Mom!”

I was taken aback: Get a life, what? You ARE my life! But after further consideration, I realized I had a let a few things slip. I used to be way more glamorous, a lot thinner, a lot more self-centered with a better hairdo. My goal is to get back to that. Me, me, me, me, me. I’m gonna be an opera singer. MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

I knew this day was coming. They call it “Empty Nest Syndrome”. I like to call it “Naked Jacuzzi Time”. But just when I got naked, my mother got sick. Damn! Damn! Damn! Now I’m driving Miss Daisy. She’s 89 and she’s earned a little extra attention, but I can’t let that sway me from my main focus: Getting a life. Getting my own life.

So the first step is to identify what it is you are passionate about. In my case, it’s always ART. Pick an art: Painting, pottery, acting, dancing, filmmaking, baking…pick one.

I chose acting. I went back to class and I started learning how to make my own films. I met new people, YOUNG people. I found a great teacher/mentor. I bought a camera. I went out in search of my tribe. You can do it too!

Don’t be scrurred (scared). The world is waiting for your idea, viewpoint, story, product and genius. Now, I don’t know about you, but I never want my kids to say that to me again. So I’m putting all my efforts into getting a life. Getting my own life. I had one once before, where did it go?! Can you relate? Let me hear from you. Thoughts?

To be continued…
